My Experience
I wasn’t planning to go paragliding when I first arrived in Innsbruck — but a local told me, “If you’re going to do it anywhere in Austria, do it in Stubai.” And honestly? They were right. Just 20 minutes outside the city, the Stubai Valley is one of those rare places that feels made for flying.
You take a cable car up into the mountains, get strapped into a harness with a pro pilot, take a few steps off a grassy slope — and suddenly, you’re soaring. Not just hovering above a hill, but truly flying: across vast alpine meadows, past mountain ridges, and over tiny villages with church towers and red rooftops. If the skies are clear, you’ll even spot Innsbruck in the distance — like a postcard come to life.

Why Stubai Is So Good for Paragliding?
Stubaital (that’s the local name) has pretty much everything a paraglider dreams of: steady thermals, reliable wind, dramatic landscapes, and lots of space to fly. You'll float over places like Neustift im Stubaital and Fulpmes, past lush forests and cliffs, and—if you're lucky—you might even catch a glimpse of the Stubai Glacier. Honestly, the views alone make it worth it
Is It Scary?
A little, right at the start. But once you're in the air, it’s shockingly peaceful. It feels like sitting on a quiet balcony in the sky. The pilot handles everything, and all you have to do is breathe, look around, and try not to grin like a maniac the whole time. If you’re feeling brave, some pilots can add gentle spirals or turns for a bit more excitement. Totally optional.
