  • Generally the minimum age for summer canyoning is 14 years old. If you have children younger than this, please contact us before booking to check suitability.
  • A courtesy waterproof camera is provided for most of our canyoning tours (please ask at time of booking). A free breakfast is also included on tours which start after 8.30am if you’re staying at the YHA.

Empress Canyon

The Basics:
  • Grade: Moderate
  • Timing: 8:45 A.M. to 4:00 P.M.
  • Group Size: Maximum of 10 people
  • Price: 190 USD
About:
  • Perhaps our most popular tour.  The first half of the day is abseiling, starting with a 5-metre-high cliff and building up to 30-metre-high cliffs during the morning.
  • After our famous lunch, it’s a scenic 20-minute walk to the start of the canyon. Wade into the creek that descends the narrow, slot-like canyon and within a few seconds you are jumping into a rock pool, the first of several jumps and swims. This canyon is an exciting affair with water jumps, exhilarating swims, water slides and fantastic scenery.
  • The final descent out of the canyon is one of the best waterfall abseils in the mountains. Clip into the rope, step back and follow the 30-metre waterfall down to the deep rock pool below. This is not just a brilliant waterfall abseil but also a fantastic photo opportunity.

Serendipity Canyon

The Basics:
  • Grade: Moderate
  • Timing: 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.
  • Group Size: Maximum of 8 people
  • Price: 200 USD
About:
  • After a half-hour easy grade bushwalk, a 15-metre abseil takes you down to creek level and its lush temperate rainforest.
  • As you progress along the creek via a series of abseils up to 16 metres high, the canyon walls gradually begin to rise up each side of the creek.
  • After a magnificent tunnel section, you will arrive at the beautiful Wollangambe River.
  • Then it’s time for our famous gourmet lunch and a play in the warmer waters of the main river before a casual hour-long walk back to the car.
  • The glow-worms you see on this canyon are an added bonus

Twister / Rocky Creek

The Basics:
  • Grade: Moderate
  • Timing: 7:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.
  • Group Size: Maximum of 10 people
  • Price: 190 USD
About:
  • A short 10-minute walk leads you to Twister Canyon. After wetsuits are fitted the fun begins. This canyon is also known as Sheep Dip. You literally jump into a pool, swim across and slide or jump into the next one for a total of 8 pools. It’s drenching!
  • We then exit the canyon and follow a trail for 30 minutes through a spectacular valley lined with tree ferns and arrive at the start of Rocky Creek where we have our famous lunch. This canyon is of a completely different nature, with 50+ metre-high walls towering overhead. Many tunnel swims, waterfall scrambles and rock slides take us to the sunshine at the end where we reverse this canyon to the start. From here a 30-minute walk takes us back to the vehicles.

Winter Canyoning
  • Our winter canyons run between May and August. These canyons have been selected because they are beautiful and ‘mostly’ dry. All you need to do is dress for the weather, bring running shoes that can get wet, a litre of water and a camera. A gourmet lunch is included on all our full-day trips. Breakfast is also included on trips starting after 8:30 am if you are staying at the YHA.

Juggler Canyon

The Basics:
  • Grade: Moderate
  • Timing: 8:30 A.M. to 4:00 P.M.
  • Group Size: Maximum of 8 people
  • Price: 175 USD
About:
  • We start with a smallish 5 metre abseil. If you have abseiled before this abseil gets you back in the swing of things. If you have never abseiled before it teaches you the technique of abseiling. From here we head straight on to 15 metre abseils which you can do a couple of times.
  • Then with your instructor explaining each step, you progress through to our 30 metre adrenaline pumping overhanging abseil.
  • This takes us up until about midday when we break for our famous lunch.
  • Then we travel to the Grose Valley, north of Katoomba. A short walk takes you to the first of 5 abseils up to 20-metres high. The canyon is narrow, steep and spectacular!
  • A 45-minute walk with stunning views brings us back to the car.

Tigersnake Canyon

The Basics:
  • Grade: Moderate
  • Timing: 7:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M.
  • Group Size: Maximum of 8 people
  • Price: 200 USD
About:
  • Half an hour of walking through the Wollemi National Park takes you to the beginning of the canyon, a slot in the ground barely a metre wide! Here you abseil into the canyon with a pool of cool water awaiting you at the bottom – luckily it will only be ankle-deep.
  • After some wading, another short abseil and a downclimb, you arrive at the first long abseil, this one situated next to a waterfall.
  • It’s here that the canyon opens out into a beautiful rainforest gully until you reach the second and spectacular long abseil, a big drop into the dark chasm sliding down between two canyon walls just 2 metres apart.
  • The trip through the deep and dark canyon is a fabulous and unique experience. We have our famous lunch surrounded by ancient tree ferns and towering rock formations allows for some rest before the steep 1-hour exit.

Advanced Canyoning
  • Our long day canyons run from November to March. All you need to do is dress for the weather, bring running shoes that can get wet, swimwear, 1.5 litres of water and a waterproof camera. We provide a gourmet lunch and all equipment on all our long day canyons. We can also provide you with a courtesy waterproof camera (please ask at time of booking).
  • Please note that if you would like to undertake an advanced canyon you must talk to us first so we can ensure it’s appropriate for you.
  • The following canyons require abseiling and canyoning experience.
  • You must be able to: Easily swim 100 metres, carry a 10kg backpack for up to 10 hours over rough tracks and creek/canyon beds, move safely up and down small cliffs as well as over smooth slippery rocks and boulders, and demonstrate a high level of fitness and endurance.

Butterbox Canyon

The Basics:
  • Grade: Advanced
  • Timing: 7:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.
  • Group Size: Maximum of 8 people
  • Price: 220 USD
About:
  • Soon the first highlight of the canyon is reached: the two main abseils which lead you down a vertical waterfall. The stance between the abseils is a chockstone, wedged in an airy position halfway down the waterfall. This is canyoning at its best! We then break for our famous lunch .
  • Another abseil and jump gets us to the end of the canyon. To walk out we sneak up through steep gullies between rock faces and walk along narrow ledges.
  • The excitement continues with a simple 10-metre rock climb 300 metres above the base of the canyon. Easy walking takes us back to the car park.

Whungee Whengee Canyon

The Basics:
  • Grade: Advanced
  • Timing: 6:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.
  • Group Size: Maximum of 8 people
  • Price: 220 USD
About:
  • A 10-metre abseil takes you to the canyon floor. The canyon then narrows dramatically, with several more abseils up to 15 metres and a few duck-unders with pitch-black tunnel swims. You need to be comfortable with tight spaces! At some point along we break for our famous lunch .
  • The final spectacular section is called the green room, with its magical filtered light. We then descend the middle section of the Wollangambe Canyon passing a couple of excellent water jumps on the route.
  • The walkout is about 1.5 hours.
  • If you are fit and have abseiling and canyoning experience, this may be the canyon for you!
