- Hill tribe trekking is one of the main reasons people come to Chiang Mai, it’s one of the safest and best locations in Asia – and the network is well established. Northern Thailand is extremely mountainous, but with a good climate – not too cold. It’s also very tropical and populated by unique hill tribes, which adds color to the whole experience.
- Chiang Mai is the main center from which to organize trekking in Northern Thailand, and we can arrange treks for you with guarantees. We use only the best trekking routes and local Karen English speaking guides, most of which are based from our private river camp and jungle homestay.
- We can have everything arranged for you before arrive . It gets busy in the high season (November-February), resulting in disappointments, or unscrupulous companies promise trips that are canceled at the last minute due to lack of numbers – that doesn’t happen with us!
- Try your luck with the numerous trekking companies that have small offices in the tourist areas of the city, such as the Night Bazaar, Loi Kroh road and down Moon Muang, alongside the Moat’s eastern flank. But don’t say we didn’t warn you!
- Trekking expeditions usually last between three and five days and can include fun activities such as elephant riding and Bamboo rafting down rivers, and quite a bit of walking – sometimes uphill! A daypack with limited clothing is needed, plus a sleeping bag and warm jacket during the winter months. You’ll be staying in the villages of the different hill tribes – these are the ethnic minority groups that migrated here from China and the Asian interior more than 10 years ago. They include the Hmong, Karen, Mein, Lisu, Akkha and Paduang. They really are poor and humble subsistence farmers, seeking out a living on the sides of hills.
